Come join Eve Skylar, Art Director and painter in the animation industry. Learn how to sketch-paint landscapes from photographs in watercolor & gouache. This class is geared for beginning to mid level representational landscape artist-enthusiasts. Taught with lecture, live-painting demos, and hands-on painting, this 3 hour session class will familiarize you with the essential principles of landscape painting: composition, color theory, atmospheric perspective, and application of watercolor and gouache. Once you master the basic principles of landscape painting, you can tackle any landscape, seascape, or cityscape, whether from photos or direct observation plein-air.
The course will cover:
-basic approaches in watercolor and gouache
-color theory and how to capture the luminescent outdoor lighting and sense of atmosphere
-atmospheric perspective and organic perspective present in every landscape environment
-how to sketch, thumbnail, massing, and simplify what you see
-how to compose and accentuate moods in a painting
-how to approach and paint complex architecture or organic flora in landscapes
-how to find and use good references and translate your photos into realistic landscapes.
*This class will be taught with water-based media of watercolor & gouache. Students must bring their own paint mediums and surface to work on during class. Students are encouraged to bring in-progress paintings that they would like to receive feedback on and work on during class or start new painting(s) during the hands-on portion of the class. Once registration is confirmed, students will receive a materials list and further instructions.
See you in the class!
